John Povey is one of the highly skilled instructors at the Byrne Black Belt Academy (BBBA).
John started his martial arts journey in 1995 at the age of 7. He trained in the traditional style of shotokai karate.
John has trained in martial arts for 25 years. He achieved his 2nd Dan in shotokai karate just before the club, unfortunately, came to a close.
He went on to try other styles of martial arts. John now has experience in taekwondo, jiu-jitsu, aikido and kickboxing as well as Karate.
John came to train with the Byrne Black Belt Academy after watching his son Reuben enjoy his classes. John settled in straight away with Bradley as his instructor.
John has achieved the rank of 3rd Dan with the Byrne Black Belt Academy and his potential was seen by chief instructor Ed Byrne who approached him and asked if he would be interested in becoming an instructor, John jumped at the chance and the rest is history.
John works full time as a plumbing, heating and gas engineer but has a passion for martial arts.
John Specialises in self-defence, weapons self-defence and women's self-defence.
